Saved By the Bell

Greetings! It has been some time since I’ve gotten to share with all of you stories of our everyday lives. Unfortunately it may be a while before you hear from me again, but for all good reasons.
School season is among us, and for this mother, that means homeschooling two energetic girls! So far it’s off to a good school year, and things are running smoothly. Even non-school related things are running smoothly.
An example is the situation with my daughter, Rachael, who has a fear of bees. Now that this cold weather has settled upon us, she has realized that bees have gone away for now and are not out. She has been outside! Yes folks, I said outside! Her lungs might be a little dusty, but this fresh air is working on clearing them out.
I realize though that this is only partly good news, because the fear is still there, and there will be more springs and summers. I still have the thoughts of what to do to help my child through this.
What if something bigger happens in her future, how will I help her through that if I can’t even help her through her fear of bees? I do not know, I have several months of cold, bee-free weather to think through what I will do when the spring weather comes and it is time to face fear again.
For now, I will enjoy and capture in my mind the image of Rachael having fun outdoors right here, right now. I’ll capture her laughter, her dancing and the way that it is so hard to get her to come back inside at the end of the day. When fear does come up out of her, then we will face it together, I don’t know how, but together.

Please enjoy this recipe for beef stew! It was our dinner tonight and perfect for these cold fall days.
